Drug Uses

This medicine is approved for the treatment of psychotic disorders. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for other condition as well, such as treatment of aggression, Tourette's syndrome and others.

General Information

It’s important to know that having a mental illness is like any other medical illness, such as diabetes or heart disease. Mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, appear to be caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Stress, heredity, drugs, other medical illness, and physical injury to the brain can also contribute to mental illness.

How it Works

Psychotic symptoms are thought to be caused by an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain. This medicine relieves symptoms by adjusting this chemical imbalance.

How to Take It

Take this medicine exactly as prescribed. This medicine can be taken with or without food.

Missed Dose

Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Pregnancy/Nursing

If you are planning on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor first. For nursing mothers, it is unknown whether this medicine is excreted in breast milk. Your doctor can give you more details about any risks to your baby while taking this medicine.
